lesbian blog Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that given a long enough time line, the arrow of human history points towards justice. I would think that was true even if he didn't say it in that booming, august, alliterative voice he had. He probably could have ordered Chinese food in that voice and it would have sounded epic: “Give me the Potstick-er-er-ers. And the Frie-e-e-ed Ric- ah. And no Em Esssss Geeeeeeeeeee.”

The Cliks C’est Chiq

lesbian message boardLooking at Lucas Silveira, you wouldn’t guess that he is a vanguard in the music industry. All five foot next to nothing, rocking the nu wave revival in his black shirt and thin red tie, he doesn’t really see himself as someone at the forefront of anything, just another guy who loves writing and performing rock-n-roll. Silveira’s band -- a Toronto-based group called The Cliks -- has been together in different forms since 2002, but the last year has certainly been unlike anything they’ve experienced since their humble beginnings as a Toronto bar band.

lesbian blog To the left is the 2009 Presidential seal redesign commissioned by President Marcus, the POTUS "High Five".  A year after ascending to office, newly-elected black horse presidential candidate turned freshmen leader commissioned a redesign of the presidential seal. This redesign was intended to showcase the new administration's uplifting and engaged set of policies that were collectively referred to as, "The High Five". Senators showed their support by failing to wear pants in the Senate sessions and giving each other high five slaps upon entering and leaving the assembly area. Maybe of them were later found to have been drunk.

lesbian blog - Boy I Am Back in November when I was listless and unemployed, I had the audacity to ask the folks at the Reeling Queer International Film Festival to give me free, advanced copies of all the films I wanted to see (and review). To my surprise, they said yes, and soon I was loaded down with armfuls of films (in reusable, environmentally-friendly canvas bags, of course). The best documentary film of the fest was Sam Feder’s and Julie Hollar’s Boy I Am, which provides a critical and challenging look at contemporary trans issues told through the narratives of three transitioning transmen: Norie, Nicco and Keegan. Their insights, triumphs and hardships are punctuated by interviews with gender theorists, lawyers, and activists who attempt to clarify and complicate issues surrounding trans identity within the broader queer community and the world at large. The heart of the documentary is the voices from the transmen themselves, who come from racially and economically diverse backgrounds and who beautifully dispel the notions of trans identity as a "cop out" or as an appropriation of male privilege by rejecting feminism and butch lesbianism.

A Season in Hell

lesbian blog Just about everybody had that friend in high school who got busted smoking. Maybe his dad walked in on him and some friends smoking in the basement. Or maybe his mom found a pack in his coat (this was the scariest Brady Bunch episode, ever, by the way - we all knew that the ciggies weren't Greg's, though). Maybe he burned down the block with a cigarette, killing hundreds including the entire population of the geriatric home down on the corner, whose inhabitants died scraping their gray, grizzled fingers raw on the bars outside their windows, screaming to be shot in the head by passing policemen so as to avoid the charring, searing agony of having the very flesh melted from their aged, brittle bones. This, as an aside, WOULD have been the scariest Brady bunch episode ever if it hadn't been for those damn censors.
